Cookie Policy
Effective date: June 16, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies MedAnswer AI uses, why we use them, and how you can control them. By continuing to use our Service, you consent to the use of cookies as described in this policy.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide information to site owners. Cookies are not harmful programs — they cannot execute code or deliver viruses.
In addition to traditional cookies, we also use browser localStorage (a form of local storage in your browser) to save your interface preferences.
2. Cookies We Use
MedAnswer AI uses a minimal set of cookies and local storage, categorised below:
2.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for the Service to function. Without them, features like logging in and maintaining your session cannot work. These cannot be disabled.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
PHPSESSID |
Session cookie | Maintains your authenticated session. Required for login, guest sessions, and usage limit enforcement. | Session (deleted when browser closes) |
2.2 Functional / Preference Storage
These items remember your preferences to improve your experience. They use browser localStorage rather than traditional cookies.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
medanswer-theme |
localStorage | Stores your dark/light mode preference so it is remembered across visits. | Persistent (until manually cleared) |
2.3 Third-Party Cookies
Some features of our Service rely on third-party providers who may set their own cookies or tracking technologies. We do not control these cookies.
| Provider | Purpose | Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google Fonts | Loads the Inter typeface used throughout the interface. Google may log your IP address and browser information when fonts are fetched from their CDN. | Google Privacy Policy |
| PayPal | When you view subscription options or proceed to payment, PayPal's SDK is loaded and may set cookies for fraud prevention and session continuity. | PayPal Privacy Policy |
We do not use advertising cookies, behavioural tracking cookies, or analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics). We do not share cookie data with advertisers or data brokers.
3. Why We Use These Technologies
- Authentication: Session cookies allow us to recognise you as logged in and protect your account.
- Guest sessions: Session cookies are used to assign and track temporary guest identities, enabling usage limits and session continuity without requiring account creation.
- Usage enforcement: Session data helps us enforce the usage limits associated with your plan tier (Guest, Registered, or Paid).
- Preferences: localStorage stores your chosen theme (dark or light mode) so it persists between visits.
4. Your Choices and How to Control Cookies
You have several options to manage cookies:
4.1 Browser Settings
Most browsers allow you to view, block, or delete cookies through their settings. Instructions for common browsers:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Please note that blocking the PHPSESSID session cookie will prevent you from logging in and may disrupt Service functionality significantly.
4.2 localStorage
You can clear localStorage through your browser's developer tools or privacy settings. Doing so will reset your theme preference to the default light mode.
4.3 Opt-Out of Third-Party Tracking
- To limit Google's data collection, you can use browser extensions such as uBlock Origin or adjust your Google account privacy settings at myaccount.google.com.
- To opt out of PayPal's tracking, visit PayPal's privacy settings in your PayPal account.
5. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. Currently, there is no industry standard for responding to DNT signals. We do not alter our data practices in response to DNT signals at this time, but we use minimal tracking overall.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
7. Contact
If you have any questions about our use of cookies or this policy, please contact us through the platform's support channels.
