The fractional excretion of sodium differentiates prerenal from intrinsic causes of acute kidney injury. FeNa <1% suggests prerenal; >2% suggests ATN.
Clinical Use
Oliguric AKI without diuretic exposure. Invalid after diuretics, CKD, or contrast nephropathy.
