Original Study
Refining clinical risk stratification for predicting stroke and thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation (Chest, 2010)
About
The CHA2DS2-VASc score is a clinical prediction rule for estimating the risk of stroke in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation. It improved upon the original CHADS2 score by adding vascular disease, age 65-74, and female sex category as independent risk factors.
Clinical Use
Use in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation to guide anticoagulation decisions. Not validated in valvular AF, mechanical heart valves, or active bleeding.
